such as announcement of scientific and administrative IAEG meetings, activities
of commissions, news about sister societies ISRM, and ISSMGE, progress
reports of Commissions, etc. The announcements contained in this Newsletter
are also published on the IAEG Website www.iaeg.info . For further information,
documents, etc. reference is made to the website.

6th 2006 a new Executive Committee for the IAEG has been elected. New
president for the years 2007 to 2010 is Dr. Fred Baynes from Perth, Australia.
Secretary General Michel Deveughele has been re-elected, but will transfer
his duties to Deputy Secretary General Sebastien Dupray before the end
of the present period. Treasurer Pierre Potherat has been re-elected for
four years.

Other important decisions of the IAEG Council Meeting
in Nottingham:
At the IAEG Executive Committee and Council Meetings
in Nottingham on September 5th and 6th, 2007 a number of other important
decisions have been taken for the future of the IAEG:
The Editorial Board of the Bulletin of the IAEG
will be restructured. Until recently the Executive Committee functioned
as editorial board. Presently discussions are being held between the editor
in chief Brian Hawkins and the IAEG President Fred Baynes about a new
composition of the editorial board. As soon as these discussions are rounded
off, the new composition will be published in our Bulletin, on our website,
and in the Electronic Newsletter.
The next 11th International Congress of the IAEG
will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from 5 to 10 September 2010. See
also www.nzgeotechsoc.org.nz or mail to Ann Williams, IAEG 2010 Organizing
Committee ( ann.williams@beca.com ).
The IAEG Council has approved with great majority
the proposed set of Clauses of the Cooperation Agreement of IAEG with
the sister societies ISRM and ISSMGE. This means that the agreement can
be finally approved by the three Associations after approval of the draft
agreement clauses by the Councils of ISRM (in the mean time approved in
November 2006) and ISSMGE (to be discussed in their Council meeting in
October 2007). The draft Federation Clauses are available at this page.
Federation of International Geo-engineering Societies
(FIGS) News.
In Nottingham, not only the IAEG Council has taken important decisions
concerning the adherence of IAEG to FIGS, but on September 9th also a
Board Meeting of FIGS was held. Another meeting of FIGS was held in Lisbon
on January 22nd .
Joint technical committees (JTC's) of FIGS.
The FIGS Board has established a number of Joint Technical
Committees. Some of these JTC's are covering new fields of interest, other
JTC's are the result of a combination of Technical Commissions of the
three Societies.
Each of the three associations appoints three
core members to each JTC, while the FIGS Board appoints the chair and
determines which association will host the JTC and will be responsible
for the implementation of its Terms of Reference. The FIGS Board has approved
guidelines for the functioning of JTC These guidelines can be downloaded
from this webpage.
The following JFC′s have already been established,
others are still under consideration
