AQUATERRA
WORLD FORUM ON DELTA & COASTAL DEVELOPMENT
The
world's delta areas and coasts are under increasing pressure due to a
range of natural and manmade reasons. Climate change is the expression
on everyone¡¯s lips and this complex issue is hotly debated. What will
change? How soon? Why?
Aquaterra answers these questions. An international conference and exhibition
designed for practical people who face real time challenges, today and
tomorrow. Covering the gamut of complex risks and opportunities, Aquaterra
consists of:
an extensive conference programme
an exhibition of the latest technologies & projects
networking facilities for experts in the urban development of coastal
and delta regions
The forum will be a meeting of minds between the planners, engineers,
contractors, financial professionals and government policy makers. It
will offer a platform for exchanging practical ideas and case studies
about the actual experience of protecting and extending urban development
in coastal and delta regions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OBJECTIVES
clear examples of active delta and coastal development
a multi-faceted case approach (policy, finance, knowledge and execution
of complex projects)
practical solutions in managing risks and creating opportunities in delta¡¯s
and coasts

3 DAYS, 3 TOPICS, 3 LAYERS, THE SPEAKERS
Each day will be devoted to a specific topic and divided into three layers.
It will start with the risks and move on to the opportunities, especially
on the third day. The keynote speakers are provocative communicators who
are slightly ahead of the curve in terms of vision and skilled at getting
their ideas across.
The second stage of each day will look at procedures and processes. Specific
cases will be presented and discussed from a variety of perspectives.
This will cover engineering, political and financing issues, choices made
and alternatives considered.
Finally, the programme will be divided into various workshops where participants
will be able to examine the technical details. Exhibitors are asked to
participate here. The Aquaterra Forum will include some 50 commercial
exhibitors and concentrate on content.

STATEGIC PARTNERS
Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) The Aquaterra Conference is supported
by the Nethetrlands Water Partnership (NWP). With its 'Delta Technology
Programme', NWP and the Dutch Water Sector are strongly involved in international
developments and projects. Aquaterra is considered as an important platform
to showcase Dutch Technology and know how as well as to exchange leading
edge technology and developments with international partners.
The Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP)
The Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) is an independent body set up
by the Dutch private and public sectors in the Netherlands to act as a
national coordination and information centre for water-related issues
abroad
COST C22 - Urban Flood Management (UFM)
Aquaterra has a strategic partnership with the COST C22 - UFM project.
This EU supported project focusses on the fact that in the last decades
Europe has witnessed on countless occasions a growing number of floods
in urban areas. Climate change and rapid urbanisation will exacerbate
this trend. Flooding incidents in urbanised catchment areas can lead to
great public concern and anxiety and the economic impacts are often severe.
Besides structural measures aiming at a reduction of the probability of
flooding, new integrated approaches need to be developed and implemented
to adapt the urban environment to climate change by further reducing its
vulnerability.
COST C22 is incorporated in the Conference programme of Aquaterra, esepcially
day 2 - Urban Areas.
